Description

When your rev counter needle starts bouncing around like a Mexican jumping bean or quits working altogether, you’re flying blind on engine speed. That’s not ideal when you need specific RPMs for PTO work or want to keep from over-revving your engine. This replacement tachometer cable brings your rev counter back to life with smooth, accurate readings that help you operate efficiently and protect your engine from damage.

What You’re Getting

  • 50-inch length fits a wide range of tractor models without excess cable to cause binding
  • 5/8″ and 7/8″ end fittings machined for proper connection at both engine and gauge
  • Flexible inner cable provides smooth rotation without the jumping and sticking of worn cables
  • Heavy-duty outer casing resists kinking from heat and everyday farm abuse
  • Works perfectly with angle drive 41761 if you need complete rev counter repair

Built for Real Farm Work

Whether you’re running a Fordson Major for loader work, a Ford 5000 series for hay operations, or a Case 485 for general farm duties, that rev counter isn’t just decoration on your dash. These tractors power everything from balers to grain drills, and many implements require specific PTO speeds to work correctly. Run your baler too slow and you’ll plug it up every few rounds; too fast and you’re wearing out components before their time.

Made to Last

This cable uses a precisely wound inner wire that transmits rotation smoothly without binding. The 1270mm length is critical—too short won’t reach, too long creates loops that cause the cable to bind and fail prematurely. The outer casing features multiple layers to resist heat from nearby exhaust components while staying flexible for proper routing around engine parts.

Installation Notes

Installation typically takes 30-45 minutes if you take your time and do it right. Start by noting the exact routing of your old cable—improper routing causes premature failure. Avoid sharp bends that restrict the inner cable’s rotation, and make sure both ends seat fully. At the gauge end, tighten the retaining nut finger-tight plus a quarter turn—over-tightening damages the gauge mechanism. A bit of light oil on the cable ends during installation ensures smooth operation from day one.
