Description
When your trusty Ford 9N, 8N, or 2N starts burning oil or losing compression after decades of faithful service, you’ve got two choices—find another old tractor or bring this one back to life. An engine overhaul kit gives you everything needed to rebuild your flathead four-cylinder back to like-new performance, and these vintage Fords are worth the effort. They’re simple, reliable, and built to last—you just need to refresh the worn parts.
What You’re Getting
- Complete rebuild components including sleeves, 3-ring pistons, rings, pins and retainers, and pin bushings for a professional restoration
- Full gasket set plus intake and exhaust valves, valve springs and retainers, guides and keys so you’re not hunting for missing pieces
- Standard and oversized rod and main bearings to handle different wear conditions
- Tru-Power quality components that meet or exceed original specifications
Built for Classic Farm Work
This kit fits the 120 CID gas engines in Ford 9N, 8N, and 2N tractors—the workhorses that built American agriculture from the 1940s through the 1950s. These tractors handled everything from cultivating and mowing to belt work and light tillage. They’re still popular today because of their simplicity and the fact that most any mechanic can work on them. When properly rebuilt, these engines will run another 50 years.
Made to Last
This isn’t a budget rebuild kit with questionable parts. The pistons are properly fitted, the rings are quality steel, and the gaskets use modern materials that actually seal better than the originals. The valve train components are built to handle the heat and stress of continuous operation, whether you’re using your Ford for farm work or shows.
Installation Notes
Rebuilding a flathead Ford is a good winter project if you’re handy with tools and have a clean workspace. You’ll need to bore the cylinders and install sleeves, so plan on machine shop work unless you have the equipment. Take lots of pictures during disassembly—these engines are forgiving, but keeping track of small parts and timing marks makes reassembly much easier. Don’t skip the break-in procedure once it’s back together.
